Back in January, some of our talented North West CAT students from the Lowry took to the AO Arena stage in Manchester for The National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals 2026 hosted by Jason Manford performing to thousands of audience members. The evening’s performance premiered on BBC One Saturday 28th March and is now available to watch back on BBCiPlayer, check it out now!
The young people were part of a special Disney medley in honour of EGOT recipient Alan Menkin with choreography by Gary Lloyd (Credits include Heathers, Curel Intentions and Dirty Dancing) assisted by Lauren Gore (Credits include Thriller Live, Stomp, and One Direction). Performing alongside incredible vocalists Lucie Jones (Credits include X-Factor and Les Misérables), Mae-Ann Jorolan (Credits include: Hercules, Aladdin and Hamilton), and Trevor Dion Nicholas (Credits include Hamilton, The Wiz, and Aladdin).
In addition to the already stacked casting, the young people were also joined on stage by youth companies from the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Youth Music Theatre. The young people had a phenomenal time and one performer stated “It has been amazing to share the stage with my friends and perform on the BBC!”, in interview with the Manchester Evening News about the engagement Lowry CAT Coordinator Jack Hilton stated “It was such an emotive evening, the stories really showcase the youth on stage, but it made me think of the variety of performers who were all once young people, and it gave our young people the opportunity to look up and see the careers that could be possible, It goes with the ideology of Disney of dreaming big, imagining what the world can be.”
