Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Programme Audition – Saturday 16 May 2026

Our auditions are an opportunity for young people to demonstrate their potential and suitability for the CAT programme at NSCD. Our audition process consists of a single audition day, designed to assess each student’s enthusiasm, creativity, and capacity to develop within the programme. We welcome applications from all young people regardless of disability, ethnicity, gender, sexuality or religion, and are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive environment. Previous dance experience is not essential. We are looking for young people who show enthusiasm, potential and commitment to dance, and who are excited about developing their skills through high-quality training.

Audition Details

Date: Saturday 4 July 2026
Time: 11:00am – 4:00pm
Age Range: 13–16

Auditions are for young people interested in joining the programme from September 2026.

On the day, auditionees will take part in:

• Contemporary technique class – exploring core movement skills and technique.

• Group creative work – collaborative tasks designed to explore creativity and movement ideas.

• Group interviews in the afternoon – an opportunity for us to get to know each student and hear about their interests and motivations.

Students do not need to prepare a solo for the audition.

Audition Preparation

We understand that auditions can feel daunting, particularly for those who may not have auditioned before. To support applicants, we offer free Audition Preparation Classes each year. These sessions help young people feel more confident and give them a better understanding of what to expect on audition day. All participants will learn the two short exercises. An introductory video and instructions explaining the exercises will be available to applicants. We strongly recommend that auditionees attend these classes where possible.
